[preview] Accident (2009)
...taking its bow at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival, six minutes of Soi Cheang's Johnnie To-produced crime thriller Accident have been posted online. There are no English subtitles, unfortunately, but they're not particularly necessary to understand what's happening. Verdict? I think it looks stellar and the inside word from those few who have seen it is that Accident is absolutely stellar, the film that should push its director to widespread international recognition. Here's how TIFF describes it... (source: twitchfilm.net; includes 01:36 trailer)

Q&A With Patton Oswalt
Patton Oswalt did a brief Q&A with AMC to plug his upcoming film, Big Fan. He talks a bit about how difficult it is for fans to continue to love a celebrity even after they've done something horrible.
But what struck me most about the interview was that Patton didn't do what most comics do when they're shilling their latest project: Do some of your schtick, then plug the gig. Instead, he gave an intelligent insightful interview that covered several topics.
For example, here's Patton on dystopian science fiction:
"A futurist pointed out to me that there is no such thing as a dystopia, which is usually portrayed as a grim and horrible future. But we're living in a dystopia right now. If you showed someone from the 1900s our world -- where if you sleep with someone you can die, and the air is brown at night, and there's the nuclear bomb, they'd think it's a nightmare. Anyone living in a dystopia should never act like it's a dystopia; they should think it's great. And the ones pointing out that it's a dystopia, everyone else thinks are crazy."

Trailer: Assault Girls
This is the trailer for an upcoming film by Mamoru Oshii, the filmmaker who gave us Ghost in the Shell. Assault Girls has cute, heavily armed Japanese girls fighting giant-assed sandworms. So...yes.

Kevin Spacey: Queso Bastard
A Discussion ensues:
FoolProof> Brent Spiner is kind of mean.
FuzzyDave> I'd like to stuff Brent Spiner and Kevin Spacey into a sack and let the two of em snark each other to death. Those bitchy queens get on my tits
FoolProof> Is KS snarky much?
FuzzyDave> Yas.
FuzzyDave> NEVER ask Kevin Spacey for his queso recipe. You'd think you'd asked him to slap an orphan. Christ, what an asshole.
crataegus> It's hard to "hide" that desire for Slavic boy dick, Dave. It has to bubble out somehow.
The world will never know
what Kevin Spacey
puts in his queso.

Trailer for Dr. Parnassus
Here is the UK trailer for Terry Gilliam's "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus," Heath Ledger's final film. It opens in the UK Oct. 16th and on Christmas Day in the USA.
I can't wait to see it. Not because of Heath, but because I'm a huge Gilliam fan. That, and also because it stars Lily Cole, the future mother of my children.
